Writer, Director, Producer, Editor, Exercise Design
During years of making stuff up for fun and inflicting acts of exercise on people for money, Adele was frequently asked whether, with those two powers combined, exercise could be made entertaining. She was curious herself so decided to find out.
Composition, Audio Post Production
Ras is a music producer and the lead singer for iconic metal band Diamond Head. He was pulled into AST as an inevitable side effect of dating Adele and is responsible for the high audio production values of the series.
Composition, Audio Post Production
Dan is a music producer, session musician and guitarist for metal band Monument and fortuitously moved in with Adele and Ras right when they needed post production backup!
Adam has worked as a video game audio designer for Activision, Disney, Lucasarts, Microsoft, Sony and Warner Brothers and now brilliantly designs all the AST sound effects and ambiences.
App and Website Developer
Development agency CYKRA built the app in parallel on iOS and Android with html5, which ensured a hassle free, fast and efficient build and responsive app.
John started out on AST by offering to help with any graphic design issues. There were many, plus an app to design, which is now so useable thanks to his many iterations and thoughtful UI.
Alda was pulled into AST through Discworld fandom shenanigans with Adele, who kept asking for ‘just ONE more piece of art…’ Suddenly she’d done all the art in the app and is the reason it’s just so beautiful.
Edward came to AST through an emergency late re-cast for Skyler, which involved an extensive audition process to find a replacement who could handle Skyler’s broad range. No small task.
Commander Ironside, Flynn
Way before Kickstarter, Ian helped out with a few lines of ‘this gruff commander guy’ for a test episode. Adele adored his mix of Nixon and Optimus Prime and made Ironside a series essential.
Another connection through Discworld fandom, Jan joined AST when Adele was searching for a Beatrice. Though too young by half, she nailed the fine balance of coach-character and cheeky old baggage.
Thomas, Jock, Narrator, Reynard
Adele first met Neil when he was playing a duck, an obvious segue to playing Thomas. She kept writing out his characters though and having to find him new ones, then guiltily adding more, so now it feels like he plays everyone.
Sergeant Hardman, Seiger
Brendan was also an urgent re-cast. His Hardman is considerably more unhinged than planned and he makes many lines funnier than written. His recordings are an entertaining 70% lines to 30% ‘fuck!’
Adele came to AST with about equal acting, directing, producing and editing experience (viz:a bit here and there 10 years ago at uni) but she was cheap for the production, knew her lines and very easy to call in for pick ups.
Without whom, none of this would have been possible
In October 2014, Apocalypse Survival Training funded for £15,225 on Kickstarter thanks to the faith of 488 backers who have been terribly patient ever since.
